Summary

Traditionally executive recruiting has relied alot on face to face meetings and personal contact. Whilst recruitment may have slowed down in the last few months it hasn't stopped. In this midweek episode from our occasional masterclass series, Matthew Grant is talking to Gavin Naimer, who has built a business recruiting senior executives for insurance companies and their partners, to find out what's happening. Topics include: - How to assess your candidates, or your next employer, from afar - The questions you must ask - What is the impact on slow down in other industries in bringing new talent into insurance - What have we learned about the benefits of interviewing remotely compared to the cost and logistical challenges of face to face? And much more Tell us what you think or contact Matthew Grant on Linkedin here Find out what we are up to at Instech London at www.instech.london Sign up to our newsletter for a fresh view on the world every Wednesday morning Resources: "Who, a method for hiring" by Geoff Smart and Randy Street Gavin Naimer on Linkedin  Continuing Professional Development - Learning Objectives InsTech London is accredited by The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII). Welcome and thank you for downloading another or maybe it's your first episode of the INSDEC London podcast. Matthew Grant here,

0:22.3

one of the partners at INSDEC London. Now, as we've been moving rapidly, if not always smoothly,

0:28.1

to full digital communications in the last few months, it is worth pausing for a minute to wonder

0:33.0

what's been happening to those activities. They've traditionally relied on face-to-face meetings.

0:38.1

Well, insurance underwriting seems to be doing okay so far. They've managed to make most of

0:42.3

the transition to digital. But recruiting is one area where physical in-person meetings

0:47.1

have almost always been required when making senior hires. Well, that's not been happening

0:51.7

recently, but people are still hiring. And maybe there's

0:55.1

been too much reliance in the past on face-to-face interviews anyway. There's certainly can be a lot

0:59.8

of inefficiency in that whole process. And recruiting itself really hasn't changed in the last

1:04.5

few decades. This is part of our occasional series exploring best practices in innovation and

1:10.6

building and running businesses.

1:12.2

I'm talking this week to Gavin Namer. Gavin has been an executive recruiter for insurance for many

1:18.0

years and I was intrigued to find out what's been happening in these last few months and what

1:22.7

his advice is to those who are hiring or looking for new roles when you've got to do this

1:27.4

digitally.

1:37.4

Gavin, it's delightful to be talking to you. We don't often speak to people from Canada, so thank

1:42.5

you very much for joining us. Now, you and I have known each other for many years, and I've always found you a really

1:47.3

useful and fascinating insight into what's going on in insurance and technology.

1:53.1

You sort of sit at that intersection between traditional insurance and new applications, both

1:57.2

within insurance and technology, and you seem to be able to speak the language of both of them.

2:01.6

So it's really good to hear your insights into what's happening this now in the world of recruitment
