| 1:03.2 | Opened up the Detroit News on a recent Sunday and found a piece from Dr. Wolfram in the lower left-hand corner. |
| 1:09.4 | Don't extend the EV tax credit, the electric vehicle tax credit. |
| 1:15.8 | Before we get into the argument, Dr. Wolfram, what's the current status? |
| 1:18.8 | What is the electric vehicle tax credit? |
| 1:22.0 | Well, the way it works is if you purchase or lease an electric vehicle that can be plugged in, |
| 1:30.3 | then you're eligible for a tax credit up to $7,500. This credit is non-refundable. So if you had a tax liability of $1,500, |
| 1:38.9 | then the most that you could get is $1,500. If you lease it, actually, the credit goes to the company that you |
| 1:47.2 | leased it from, and then the idea would be they would lower their price to you of the lease. |
| 1:53.1 | And the credit expires for any company once they've got 200,000 vehicles sold. And Tesla and Chevrolet have met that |
| 2:06.1 | standard. And so you no longer get a credit for that. And so there's a movement to try to say, |
| 2:15.8 | okay, well, let's forget about the 200,000 vehicle limit, and |
