25 years ago, February 2001, Maryland was in the midst of a season in which they lost a home game against Florida State and Gary Williams got booed off the floor, but turned around to the crowd and basically middle fingered everybody and said, you just wait.

And about a month and a half later, Maryland was in its first final four ever.

Joining me right now, National Championship Hall of Fame head coach of Maryland for all those years, Gary Williams.

First of all, how are you doing?

I actually was looking through my phone and talking to Max about this.

We have not had you on the show this year because it has not been a banner year for college

basketball in the market.

I agree with you, Kevin.

You hate to see it because, you know, D.C. is known as a basketball town.

And where things are right now, they're not good.

And hopefully, you know, the whole area can come back, not just Maryland or not just Georgetown or whatever.

But the whole area, you know, could really use that, I think.

And as fans, you know, they pay a part in this too.

You know, fans, there's so much on television now and it's, you know, with the traffic,

there's always reasons why not to go to a game.

But, you know, the support for the local team sometimes isn't there because of the games you can see that night. But, you know, if your team's playing, you've got to go to the game. I mean, it makes it a great atmosphere. It's a great experience and all those things. So hopefully that will take place in the future, but we'll see.

I didn't love that Michigan and Duke played in the DMV last week. I'm not blaming anybody at Monumental or from a business standpoint.
