Gary Jubilee is arguably Australia's highest profile former detective right now.

It's a spot usually reserved for former detectives on trial,

or former detectives becoming charismatic media commentators.

But I'm pretty sure this is the first time

one man has been both at once.

Jubilee worked in major homicide for decades,

investigating dozens and dozens of murders.

Some investigations had satisfactory outcomes and some didn't but it's the disappearance of

four-year-old William Tyrell that brought his brilliant career undone. He was

suddenly and sensationally stood down as the lead investigator on that case in May 2019.

He resigned from New South Wales police a couple of days later and was then charged with four counts of unlawfully recording conversations

with the Tyrell family's neighbor, Paul Savage, without a warrant.
