Welcome back, my friends. To the Epic Gardening podcast. We have Ashley Thomas back

0:17.2

on the show. She's an organic gardener in North Carolina, Zone 7B. A zone and state

0:23.8

I have never entered myself. Well, no, I've probably been in Zone 7B, but I haven't.

0:28.4

I haven't grown in Zone 7B. So Ashley, what is your season like just at a high level to

0:35.5

start us off? So if I had to kind of describe the growing season or really just the seasons

0:42.2

here in North Carolina, it would be fairly long summers or warmer weather and then the shorter

0:48.8

winters. So our winters don't get too low. I mean, it gets to freezing, but we don't

0:55.0

get like icy, icy weather like Antarctica. So it's pretty temperate. Oh, interesting. Yeah,

1:04.0

I don't know why I would have thought that the winter would have been pretty snowy in

1:10.0

7B, but I guess it just depends. It's the trick of zones, right? Because all they really

1:14.1

tell you is the minimum temp in that much else. That's true. And it just varies. Yeah.

1:22.1

So when does your season tend to start? So it depends on which season because I grow

1:31.3

year round. So our summer or our spring season typically starts with where we start to get

1:38.8

the warmer weather. We're looking at around late April or May. Crazy. Because many people

1:47.0

are ready to grow starting in January, but that window typically ends around late April. And then

1:55.2

we go into our colder months or our cooler weather around late October, early November. And that's

2:03.6

kind of the trend over the last couple of years. So I mean, you just got to plan accordingly

2:11.7

and just know exactly what you want to grow and just really time things the right way.

2:17.1

And that's why I'm able to kind of grow year round is, you know, a lot of planning,

2:22.4

knowing when to start seed so that everything can be established and those code hearty vegetables

2:27.0

are able to thrive appropriately. Yeah, that's been the thing that Jacques and I were on the podcast

2:34.5

recently and Chris was on too. And we're kind of joking around about how at least in San Diego,
