I want to start this week with a story I heard years ago and then it was reiterated in

general conference about 15 years ago.

So this is President Christofferson in 2011 in his talk called As Many as I Love, I rebuke and

Chasen. And he retells the story from President Hugh B. Brown. So this is President Christofferson

quoting President Brown. Side note, someone once told me early on in my seminary and institute career, that

if you want to know what the most important doctrines or truths are, look for when an apostle

quotes an apostle, when a prophet quotes a prophet.

When scripture stacks up, whether it's prophets quoting scripture or prophets quoting

scripture, that's an indication that God is putting a period or an exclamation point even

onto something.

And so here's a member of the first presidency, quoting another member of the first presidency.

And he says this, this is President Christopherson.

God uses another form of chastening or correcting to guide us to futures we do not or cannot now envision, but which

he knows is a better way for us.

President Hughby Brown, formerly a member of the Quorum of the Twelve, and a counselor

in the first Presidency, provided a personal experience.

He told of purchasing a rundown farm in Canada many years ago.
