Hey, everybody, I'm Matt. This is the 10-minute Bible Hour podcast, and I am faced with a conundrum at the front end of our conversation today. And that conundrum is, how do you go on the internet and figure out what the most socially acceptable, least offensive term is at any current time for a woman of the night, a woman who participates in the oldest of professions.

I'm going to go, I think, with prostitute because it seems like that one's pretty timeless and pretty

clinical. At any given time, there's a lot of different words for a woman who finds herself in this situation.

And indeed, when we turn to the Bible Book of Hosea, we've got a lady on screen who is in exactly that kind of spot.

This lady's name is Gomer.

Yeah, I know.

That's her name. Maybe it was like a real hot,

trendy name back then, like when all the girls were named Brittany or whatever in the mid-1990s,

or Emily spelled E-M-I-L-I-E-G-H in the early 2000s, or Emma or Ella in the mid to late 2000s and early 20 teens.

I don't know.

There's always like, you know, real cute, trendy names.

It's hard for me to imagine that Gomer was ever on that list, but maybe it was.

So there's this lady and her name's Gomer.

We're just going to roll with it.

And she plays a very strange role in the very

strange old testament prophetic book of hosea how are we getting to hosea in the middle of a season

on galatians well in galatians chapter three verse 13 what am i doing it's hebrews it's not galatians at all. It's your first time doing a Bible podcast, Whitman, pull it together. Galatians 313. Paul says Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law. Hosea is a book about redemption, and in particular, the object of redemption is this lady named Gomer, who, for all intents and purposes, is a prostitute.

Now, Jose is a prophet to the northern kingdom of Israel, as we discussed yesterday.

He was prophesying right around the time of the ultimate collapse, the ultimate fall of the northern kingdom of Israel.

And with Josea, God chooses to employ a method

that he's used a few other times with prophets and will use a few other times with prophets

in the Old Testament, where the story of their life or their almost public prophetic performance
