Hey Isher, it's Jamie. Thank you for joining me on another episode of Murderish.

I'm a little under the weather, so if my voice sounds a little funky, please forgive me.

The case I'm covering in this episode is one that I've said before I would never cover.

I said that because we all have cases that cut us deeper than others, and this is that case for me.

It is the most horrendous case I have learned of, and for my own selfish reasons, I have never

allowed myself to gain any in-depth knowledge of it, because it's just too painful.

But what I've come to realize is that what this young boy went through makes my feelings about the case completely insignificant.

In other words, no matter how tough it is for me to learn what actually happened, the emotions this case evoke in me will never, ever come close to what this young boy felt, both physically and emotionally.

I understand this case will be very difficult for people to hear, but I hope that by listening, you'll get to know a young boy who deserves to be known and remembered.

I also hope that anyone working in a position involving children can use this tragedy to make certain they will do everything in their power, and then some, to ensure this never happens under their watch.

This case involves extreme child abuse and the death of a child. That child's name is Gabriel Fernandez, and this is part of his story.

Yeah, Michelle, Mark, there really isn't a reprieve in this case each day of this trial very difficult on the stand today.

Gabriel's first grade teacher, she spent the most time with Gabriel and said that he opened up to her about the abuse he was experiencing at home.

Written in the shaky unsure handwriting of a first grader, Gabriel's teacher reads a note she found hidden in the eight-year-old's desk a few days after she learned of his brutal death.

I love you, mom, and Gabriel is a good boy.

Jennifer Garcia said Gabriel confided in her early on in the school year telling her he was beaten at home.

Garcia immediately reported this to the Department of Children and Family Services.

She said that sometimes my mom makes me believe and I tell her where do you believe it is that's on my body?

Because she came through with a spell and even you know that's part of the metal on it? And you can snap her.

Over the next few months, Garcia said she saw repeated bruises, burns, wounds, and other injuries on the boy.
