Welcome to the Fim Minute podcast. This is Nancy Wilson. Thanks so much for joining me today. I was looking at John 15.5, and it says this, I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me and I in him bears much fruit,

0:24.2

for without me you can do nothing. I know you're familiar with this verse, and sometimes those are

0:30.5

the ones that it's fun to look at and think about because we're so familiar with them. Obviously,

0:37.1

Jesus is the vine, and if we are attached to him,

0:40.8

we're going to bear fruit. But without him, we will not. We'll be fruitless. We can do nothing,

0:48.3

Jesus says. And if you've ever seen a fruitful grapevine, you know how fat those bunches of grapes can be.

0:56.2

I've sometimes wondered how the branch can even hold them up.

1:00.0

But you've also probably seen a dead branch, brown and brittle, with no fruit, waiting to be cut off, in the way.

1:08.9

Or it's already lying on the ground.

1:14.9

That unfruitful branch did not abide in the vine.

1:23.1

And Jesus tells us here, he is the vine, and we must abide in him if we hope to produce any fruit.

1:33.8

So what does abide mean exactly? Well, abiding in Christ means remaining in Him, continuing in Him,

1:41.4

not resisting Him, but making our home in Him. He who abides in Christ and Christ in Him will bear much fruit. That is the consequence of staying in the vine.

1:48.5

And so I decided, of course, to give a look at what our friend Spurgeon has to say about this

1:53.7

passage. I just loved it. All right, here it is. We must be fruitful. From a vine, we look for grapes. And from a Christian, we look for Christianity.

2:06.9

So that great? I love that. And from a Christian, what do we look for? Well, we're looking for Christianity to show.

2:16.2

And so there it is. It's quite a profound observation, I think. It's like,

2:21.3

simple. From a Christian, we're going to see Christianity. It should be as obvious as grapes on a vine.

2:28.4

And if you have friends and acquaintances and family who do not know you're a Christian, this should give you pause. Why don't they know?

2:37.4

Are you hiding your light under a bushel? Are there any grapes on your vine? So I decided to

2:43.7

compose a few questions for us here to ask ourselves about our Christianity, because from a

2:50.4

Christian, we look for Christianity. And the truth is,
