And just because you get a deal with those negotiators doesn't mean that you have the votes.

Words like impass and stalled and paused or not great if you're trying to close a deal with a

fast approaching deadline. It's an even more grim outlook when failure could lead to a default

and economic consequences feared across the political landscape.

But Friday, those were the words used by a Republican negotiator trying to strike a budget

deal and debt limit increase with White House officials. A timeline is already truncated with

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy suggesting something needs to come together by the end of this weekend

or certainly by early next week. The Senate has adjourned and is on recess, but majority leader

Chuck Schumer told colleagues to be ready to race back here with as little as 24 hours notice

if a bipartisan agreement emerges. So is it time to push a panic button? That's where we start

Well, you know, it's funny. Sometimes I talk to people back home and they say,

well, why don't they just all work it out? You know, or how dare they go and recess?

And this is just not this subject that's other subjects. And I'm like, there's no reason for

Congress to be in session and keep people sitting around the building unless you have something to

vote on. Well, there's no deal yet. Now, this recess was scheduled months ago. The House

schedule was set months ago. They happen to be in next week. But what probably is going to happen
