A spending disagreement is brewing in Congress as representatives work to vote on twelve appropriations bills before the fiscal year ends in September. Republican lawmakers are demanding even less spending than what they agreed to earlier this month, narrowly avoiding a default on the nation's debt. House Democrats have reacted by raising the prospect of a government shutdown come Fall. This July, President Joe Biden, and his NATO counterparts are expected to select a new Secretary-General for the alliance when they meet for a summit in Vilnius, Lithuania. Jens Stoltenberg's term was set to expire last year; however, his tenure was extended after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. Stoltenberg says he doesn't plan on seeking another extension but hasn't ruled himself entirely out of the running.
