Sunday, April 19, 2026. I'm Jessica Rosenthal. The federal government says it's working with states to get foster kids into more homes while decreasing the number of kids in the system.

And they think they may be starting to see some success in both red and blue states.

For every dollar invested in child welfare nationally,

the federal government kicks in about 43 cents, and state and local governments contribute

the remaining 57 cents. So staying local governments are the majority payer, but certainly

$12 billion is nothing to sneeze at, and taxpayers demand accountability for the

dollars that are invested federally.
