My name is Tobias Jones. I'm a writer and journalist based in Palmer in the North of Italy.

And I wrote, inside Italy's altres, the dangerous fans who control the game.

The article was published in December 2016. I've been writing about Italian football and

especially Italian football fans for a long time. And the genesis of this article really was

the suicide of one of Juventus's head altres, Giotro Bucci in July 2016, when he jumped from

a viaduct outside Curin. So what's fascinating about the Italian altres is they are very diverse.

So they're very politicised. The vast majority now from the far right, having started from the far

left in the late 60s and 70s. But they're also, some of them are adamantly non-political and say,

politics shouldn't come anywhere near our terraces. And that sort of dichotomy also applies to

organised crimes. So there's a huge overlap between ultra-groups and proper organised crime.

And this Giotro Bucci story had a lot of the Calabrian mafia, the Andrangita, on the edges of

Juventus altres. But at the same time, there are many ultra-groups who are battling organised crime.

So I like those stories in which what you're writing about cuts both ways. There's no sort of

black and white to it. Giotro Bucci's death really opened up the ultra-world and gave us a glimpse

into what's going on in these groups. And then in the years since the article was published,

it's been revealed that Giotro Bucci was actually working as an informant for the Italian secret

services. And he was giving insights into the infiltration of the Draugi, which is the name of this

Juventus altru group, giving insights into their overlap with the Andrangita and the far right.

The other iconic death in the ultra-world happened a few years after Giotro Bucci's death.
