Now back in 2018, journalist Daniel Trilling wrote a Guardian long read tracing how Tommy Robinson was pioneering a new playbook for the far right, a mix of entrepreneurial activism,

viral video stunts, and a constant performance of victimhood, claiming censorship while

pushing extremist myths into the mainstream.

Nearly a decade on, Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, has been convicted

of further offences in addition to a previous

criminal record which saw him serve stints in prison for offences including assault and mortgage fraud.

He has more recent convictions for libeling, a Syrian boy refugee, and for stalking and harassing

journalists. This summer, he was the face of the Unite the Kingdom rallies across the UK.

Now, he says he's converted to Christianity following an experience in prison and is telling his supporters to put Christ

back into Christmas. So today we're asking, why didn't we, as a wider society, heed the

warnings of 2018, which were pretty clear at the time. And what does Robinson's pivot to

the pulpit tell us about where British extremism goes next? To talk about the rise of the far right
