I'm Brian Hyatt. This is Rolling Stone, Music Now. I wanted to talk more about artificial intelligence and music. I recently wrote a big feature for Rolling Stone that tried to dispel some of the hype around AI and music and also get into its real possibilities and dangers.

We're going to do a little more of that in this episode.

But before that, I wanted to offer an update

on something I mentioned my story,

which is the closest thing to a chat chibity style interface for music making that it actually exists.

It's called MusicLM, and it's made by Google. Some consumers have early access to it I

managed to get it myself and the remarkable thing about Music LM is I'm pretty

sure it's gotten better at making music in the last few weeks or maybe Google has removed some of the

guardrails on it but basically you type a few words and it manifests an audio

file of music that attempts to match your description. It's like music criticism in reverse.

From there I wrote 70 style jazz rock with a modern twist. As I wrote my piece, the most unnerving part of Music LM is the ghostly lead vocals that seem to be emerging.

And maybe it's my imagination, but they seem to get louder and more clear
