The Core 4. The four headlines you need to know.

As expected, Russia will hold a ceremony today in Moscow to celebrate their annexation of four

occupied Ukrainian regions after a week of forcing Ukrainian citizens to vote on a referendum to join

Russia. According to Russian President

Vladimir Putin and Russian media, the referendum allegedly showed major support for Russian

annexation. However, Ukraine, along with its allies, have denounced the referendum and called it

illegitimate. And Ukraine has vowed to fight to reclaim the territories along with additional support

from Western European allies and America. But the Russian annexation announcement does make

things trickier now, considering Russia has stated that will use any means necessary to protect

Russian territory, including nuclear weapons. And in their eyes, those four Ukrainian territories will

now be considered Russian land. The U.S. embassy in Moscow issued a security alert to all U.S.

citizens in Russia, and to sum it up, they basically said, get out. This comes after Putin

decided to move ahead with a partial military

mobilization, essentially sending all military members on reserve to fight in Ukraine. The U.S.

embassy is warning that Russia could do a few different things. They could enlist people with

dual citizenship, refuse to acknowledge a dual nationals U.S.

citizenship, and even prevent them from leaving Russia.
