Helene made landfall in Florida last night. The storm hit the Big Bend region,

where the state's peninsula meets the panhandle

on the Gulf of Mexico. It arrived as an extremely

dangerous category for a storm. It is since weekend to a tropical storm. Storm surge

in areas near landfall could reach as high as 20 feet.

That level could be life-threatening.

Damaging winds will now sweep inland,

and flooding rains could pour into Georgia and the Carolinas.

At least three people have died since the storm made

landfall. Helene is one of the biggest hurricanes on record to hit the Gulf Coast.

Its impacts will be felt hundreds of miles from its center.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis spoke about the storm at a news conference last night.
