We're going to turn soon to questions, but first I want to turn to an obituary.

You know, for a very good reason obituaries turn out sometimes to be absolutely explosive in terms of

opportunity for reflection. You look at an obituary of someone say very famous

around the world you read the obituary and you all of a sudden reflect

upon the meaning of that life but I I really enjoy finding obituaries of people

who are not famous but nonetheless they do help me to understand some aspect of life.

Well, somewhere between those two is the obituary I want to mention,

and this has to do with the fact that a well-known prophet of the poor, as he was known, a Roman Catholic priest by the Poor as he was known a Roman Catholic priest by the name of Gustavo Gutierrez in Peru

this man lived and died he died just days ago at age 96 now what makes the life and thought of Gustavo Gutierrez

so important for us is that he was in so many ways one of the founding fathers

of the movement that was known as liberation theology.

Okay, in order to understand that, we've got to go back

at least to the 1960s.
