It's Friday, October 11, 2024. I'm Albert Moeller and this is the briefing, a daily analysis of news and events from a Christian worldview.

0:13.7

Well, Hurricane Milton crossed the entire peninsula of Florida and it did leave a lot of devastation

0:19.1

in its wake.

0:20.1

But the big story is, and this is very strange, it tells us a lot about human nature.

0:25.1

The big story is it was not as devastating as some thought it might be.

0:29.5

Now that's good news, right?

0:30.5

Well, let's just state, that is very good news. It is very good news that the

0:34.9

death and devastation was far more limited than had been forecast. But we also

0:40.1

recognize that those who were doing the forecasting had built in a certain amount of variation in their forecast itself.

0:47.4

0:53.2

pattern. It makes a very big difference thus if for instance is given the

0:57.6

topography and the danger of Tampa Bay is a very shallow body of water. It made a big difference if that was

1:05.2

going to be at the north or at the south of the psychotic structure. It turned out

1:10.4

that the storm's center went south of Tampa and thus the winds that

1:15.4

it primarily affected Tampa were blowing the water out rather than in.

1:18.6

Now you look at that and you say well you know they were able to follow this storm. Why couldn't they get that more accurately

1:25.2

forecast? Why didn't they have a more accurate understanding of where it was going to go? Why did they

1:30.0

offer all these dire scenarios about Tampa.

1:33.0

Well, it is because it simply is not yet

1:36.4

within human ability to pinpoint exactly what these terms are

1:40.0

going to do.

1:40.5

And I want to back off for a moment
