A federal judge in Austin blocked Texas state officials from implementing an immigration law

that would have allowed them to arrest, jail, and prosecute migrants who cross into the U.S.

illegally. In a 114-page report, the judge wrote that the Constitution and Supreme Court precedent

make it clear that states cannot

enforce immigration measures without federal approval. And the Texas law conflicts with federal

law. Texas also argued that they had authority to defend themselves from an invasion, which is true. But the judge declared that

surges in immigration are not considered an invasion in terms of the Constitution. Without action

from the court, this law would have gone into effect on Tuesday. I want you to be a movie director

for a second. Okay. Your goal is to make a crazy sci-fi dystopian movie. But here's the caveat. It has to be about the most boring machine you can think of. Okay? What would you pick? A toaster? Not a bad choice. but movies about toasters have been made before.
