The air in New York got so bad Wednesday that breathing it was like smoking one half a pack

of cigarettes a day. Smoke from more than 400 wildfires burning in Canada drifted over Uncle

Sam's East Coast, creating historic pollution levels and putting nearly a third of Americans

under air quality alerts. Wednesday afternoon, New York City had the worst

air of any major city on Earth with an air quality index of 413 out of 500.

For reference, 0 to 50 is considered good.

The international community has lent hundreds of firefighters to help Canada fight the historic flames.

The smoke closed schools, canceled major league baseball games and Broadway shows and disrupted

flights. While air quality is improving, sensitive groups like the elderly,

young children and people with respiratory issues are still advised to remain indoors

or wear high quality masks.

Pray for those affected by the fires and poor air quality. If you're in an impacted area,
