We are now in the second full day of the Biden administration and the big talk of yesterday was the COVID response and vaccine distribution.

Yesterday CNN reported that Biden's advisors were shocked to find that after taking office

there was no COVID vaccine distribution plan for them to inherit from the

Trump administration. To quote one advisor, there is nothing for us to

rework. We are going to have to build everything from

scratch. In a briefing yesterday Biden announced that he would carry out his

pledge to invoke the Defense Production Act to produce more materials needed for vaccination.

He also signed an order calling for masks on planes, trains, buses, and at airports.

Personally, I'm just excited to not have to watch any more videos of people fighting with flight

attendance because they asked them to put their mask on.

Later in the afternoon, Dr. Fauchy, who is now Biden's chief medical advisor, addressed

reporters for the first time in nine months.

He expressed relief to be able to advise Biden and to speak freely about the virus, but warned that

we are still in a very serious situation and that we could see an additional 100,000 deaths in the next month.

But looking toward a future timeline, Fauchy said that if the US can

vaccinate 70 to 85% of the country by the middle or end of summer that the fall

could approach a degree of normalcy.

Which sounds great because I would simply love to go out to lunch this year.

However, Fauchy said that there still work to be done in convincing the public to trust the vaccine.

I myself am about five days away from camping out at a CVS waiting for vaccine leftovers.
