Happy Friday. From the KUOW Newsroom, this is Seattle now. I'm Paige Browning. We've got a lot of

news for Friday afternoon. Let's dig in. It's Friday, June 28th.

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way for cities to ban homeless encampments on public

property, ruling on a case out of Oregon. The case is the high court's most significant on the issue in

decades and comes as a rising number of people in the U.S. are without a permanent place to live.

We have a full discussion with KUOW's Kate Walters in a few minutes.

Burians, one of our local cities that does have a ban on camping in specific public places.

That's a policy that's faced controversy,

especially while the Supreme Court case was argued. And now, Publicola News is reporting,

King County has withdrawn its $1 million offer to help the city of Burian build a shelter village.

The county offered up the unused federal pandemic money last spring. But now,

publicola reports that it's now expected to go toward outreach and emergency housing in South King County.
