T-G-I-F. From the K-U-O-W Newsroom, this is Seattle now. I'm Paige Browning with a roundup of today's top stories. It's Friday, August 1st. In our top story today, seven people at the ICE detention

center in Tacoma are being treated for suspected tuberculosis. Washington State's Health Department

is in charge of the investigation, but as Ilyish O'Neill reports,

information about the cases is scant. There are only about 20 tuberculosis cases a month in the

entire state of Washington, and this month, seven of those cases are at the ICE facility in Tacoma.

The detainees were tested for TB when they arrived at the facility,

and suspected positive cases were put in medical isolation and are receiving treatment.

A spokesperson for the State Health Department said in an email

that there's no known connection between any of the cases,

and the agency does not believe there's been any transmission within the facility.

Because of that, the spokesperson said, they're not gathering information about how many total

people have been tested for TB, and they cannot answer questions about how many detainees

are in medical isolation. ICE has not responded to KUOW's inquiries about the tuberculosis cases.
