Hello and welcome to Queer's Fact. My name is Eli. I'm Alice. I'm Irene. And today we're talking about the Mexican artist Frida Carlo.

0:11.3

First of all, we have several content warnings for this episode. We're going to be talking about the bus accident

0:21.9

that Frida famously experienced and the severe and lasting physical injuries and trauma that

0:26.8

resulted from that. We'll also be discussing miscarriage and abortion in some depth. There will

0:32.1

also be discussion of sexual encounters between adults and a minor, as well as non-explicit mentions of sex

0:38.7

and discussions of political unrest, periodical misogyny, and misogyny and homophobia

0:43.7

in the modern sources. So if any of that sounds like something that you don't want to listen

0:48.5

to, feel free to skip this episode and give one of our other episodes a try. Also a couple of other things. As you will have

0:56.6

noticed, this is part one of two. Oops. It's the regular story, Frida just did too much with

1:04.9

her life. So we're going to talk about her twice. So the first episode is out now and the second episode so as not to disrupt

1:12.8

our normal schedule too much we're going to bring out as a kind of bonus episode a week

1:16.4

from now on the 22nd. This episode will cover Frida's life from her birth until her return

1:22.3

to Mexico from the United States in 1933 and then the next episode we'll talk about the rest of Frieda's life.

1:28.8

Also, because of difficulties with talking about Frida's sexuality, particularly her

1:34.8

attraction to women, which is why you're all here, we're not going to sort of interspers

1:39.8

that discussion, like chronologically through her life, we generally do we're going to discuss

1:45.1

basically all the miscellaneous bits of information we have about that at the end and do kind of

1:50.0

like an analysis of how her sexuality gets talked about so in short there isn't a lot of queer

1:55.6

content in this episode but you know hopefully this will still be a bit interesting anyway

2:00.3

I also wanted to mention the fact that this episode has been severely, incredibly delayed so much.

2:07.6

It was the chosen topic by our patrons who voted on it in a poll so long ago.

2:14.7

And then various things happened.
