In this episode, the story of how a nation fought back against great odds is continued in director

Eugenie Afniewski's documentary, Freedom on Fire, Ukraine's Fight for Freedom.

Screened as part of the DGA's documentary series, the film resumes its harrowing look at Ukraine's

battle for freedom following Russian President Vladimir Putin's

unprovoked invasion in early 2022, as told through the personal stories of civilians, children,

soldiers, and doctors. In addition to Freedom on Fire, Afnevsky's directorial filmography

includes the documentary features, Winter on Fire,

Ukraine's Fight for Freedom, Francesco, and Pray for Ukraine, the feature film, OiVe, My Son, is Gay,

and episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful.

Following the documentary series screening of the film at the DGA Theater in New York,

Afinievsky spoke with director Raymond DeFalida about filming Freedom on Fire, Ukraine's Fight for Freedom.

I feel like last February, there was an awfully long time ago in watching this.

And my memory, and I'm probably a little bit's faulty, a little bit's going to be paraphrasing,

my memory is that just a couple of weeks before the

attack, at a press conference, President Biden was asked what he thought was going on, massing of

troops, the military exercises. And he said something to the effect of. Only one man knows what is going to

happen. And again, I think I'm paraphrasing

but I believe he said if if he's going to do what it looks like he's making a terrible mistake
