And in this episode, Frederick Douglas saves the Constitution.

There is no human being who has lived in this great nation who embodies the principles of hot freedom more than Frederick Douglass. I love hearing about Frederick Douglass. I love

reading about Frederick Douglass. I love reading about his story and his struggle and his tragic

optimism and how he worked with people to convince them to abolish slavery while sharing details of his own life and his path to enlightenment through literacy and knowledge and the hope that bringing others into that very enlightenment would free them as well. What I didn't know about

Frederick Douglass, his views on the Constitution were really critical for taking the abolitionist

movement and really galvanizing it around the fight to end slavery. And it is such an interesting journey. Thank goodness. There is a book

dedicated to this story. It is called A Glorious Liberty, Frederick Douglass and the Fight for an

Anti-Slavery Constitution. And many of us know sort of the high points of Frederick Douglass's life

that he was born a slave.

And he was enslaved in Maryland.

He learned how to read as a young child.

He heard his slave master admonishing the mistress of the house who was teaching him how to read, saying,
