Following two nights of violent protests against the fatal shooting of a teenage motorist in a Parisian suburb,

the French government has announced it will deploy 40,000 police officers this evening,

5,000 of them on the streets of Paris.

Demonstrators have attacked cars, police stations, schools and town halls,

and thrown fireworks, petrol bombs and projectiles at the police in Paris and in several other cities.

The officer who shot the 17-year-old known as Nahl,

After an emergency cabinet meeting this morning, President Emmanuel Macron said he could understand
