A political upheaval again threatens the European Union stability, but this time it snap

elections in France, one of the bloc's central pillars.

This weekend, voters will head to the polls for a first round of voting in what President

Emmanuel Macron has fashioned as a referendum on his leadership

and whether the public is really willing to accept his party's rivals on the far left and right.

The consequences of that vote are the focus of this week's newsroom.

This weekend, we will have the first round of voting in the French elections.

So Pierre, if I could start with you, what are the polls telling us about what the government

in France is most likely to look like at this stage?

The polls don't tell us anything about how the government will look like because it's going

to be a big mess after the second round of the election and the mess will start as soon as next Monday after the first round.

While the different parties are polling respectively, the far right is pulling at about a third of the vote.
