our newspapers publish wild propaganda, our corporations would rather make an ideological point

and make an honest buck, that's when we know we're ruthless.

And the only way out of this chaos isn't to join one failing team or another,

but to be brutally honest, wicked smart, and absolutely fearless.

And there are very few topics that require wicked smart and absolutely fearless.

And there are very few topics that require more of the above than the Middle East.

Now look, I'm a ninth generation Israeli, a big old Yid, an editor at large for the universe's most important

influential and intelligent Jewish magazine this year tablet which means I

get to talk about the Middle East a lot and when you talk about the Middle East a lot.

And when you talk about the Middle East, inevitably some moron will pipe up and say,

well, you know, the problem really began in 1916 with the French-British Sykes-Pico agreement that randomly divided the Middle East into artificial

nation states that were always doomed to fail, or something like that.

I'm a red-blooded kind of guy, and when I hear someone start a conversation by giving me a hundred years

worth of context my first response is to channel that famous internet meme and say

excuse me sir but this is an ar, or tongue just slightly out of cheek.
