Many of you, original listeners, back in the day, may have remembered this challenge

I did called the apocalypse grow challenge where I was trying to live for 30 days off

of my garden, but I was also allowed to forage, fish, and barter, but I could only barter

if it was like a fair market trade, and turns out foraging made up a decent part of that

getting mulberries, getting low quads, getting whatever, really I could find out there

So we started just by getting field guides of plants, just regional plants, and we started

learning the plants themselves, and then I would get edible field guides to try to sort

of cross-reference, because sometimes you get a field guide and it doesn't tell you

if the plant is toxic or edible.

And so we just started by basically learning the plants on our farm that occurred, and

then when we would go on walks and nature hikes and stuff, and also mushrooms, we got

really, really into mushrooms.

There's a lot of woods and forests here, and tons of different kinds of mushrooms grow.

So we would get the books, we would all go out together, and at first we would just

take pictures of stuff, because I didn't want to harvest things if I didn't really know

what it was, if I wasn't sure.

And I was nervous at first, I was kind of nervous when we first started learning, because I

didn't want to eat anything that was going to hurt me or my family, obviously, I just

was very careful.
