The In 1971, Director Piers Haggard made a film about an innocent, rural 18th century English village,

being corrupted by something ancient and evil lurking just beneath the soil.

This was the first film on record to be labeled folk horror,

a term coined by a journalist during the making of the movie,

which would then be referenced by the director, Pierce Haggard, many years later.
