This holiday season, thousands of LGBTQ youth are out in the cold because they were thrown out of their homes when they came out or were outed to their unforgiving families.

To combat this problem, the Chicago charity Care for Friends is inviting folks to

spend a night in tents out in the cold in the middle of February to raise money to support

homeless LGBTQ youth. Today, J.D. Miller, homeless youth activists and chairperson for Care for Friends,

a nonprofit serving all homeless people with an emphasis on LGBTQ youth

joins us to talk about the complex nature of what it takes to motivate people to give,

not just during the holiday season, but all year long.
