Summary

Welcome back! We’re discussing the psychology, neuroscience, and applications of method acting and flow state to develop behavioral and character range, aka “become the person you want.” This week’s communal Schauer will be very STEAM heavy, but don’t worry, next week we’re bringing it all together to cultivate a performance that feels personal and true to you (and who you could be).  Make sure to “like” and subscribe on Youtube, rate my 5-stars wherever you get your podcasts, and check out my Substack where I have additional musings. Hi guys, welcome back. This is Shower Thoughts with Sarah Shower. I'm Sarah Shower. This

0:13.0

episode is going to be how to become the person you want or pretend to be the person you

0:17.5

want. The old saying like, fake it till you make it, it has a lot of

0:21.9

science behind it. So that's what we're going to be talking about today. And we are going to be

0:25.6

going the route of method acting and getting its character and how to inhabit or embody a

0:30.8

character, which can help you, you know, embody a character and then, you know, kind of develop

0:37.4

your range, right? a lot of people have

0:39.1

typecast themselves as a certain type of person and I'm here to say that you don't have to

0:44.0

typecast yourself if everyone is always telling you the exact type of person you can be that's them

0:48.4

right they're not the director of your life and if this were a play right if they're not the director

0:52.7

of your life if they're not even the casting agent right then why it does it matter what they're going to say about, like, if you're

0:57.5

the type of person who does this or doesn't do this? So you can expand your range and we're going to

1:02.4

talk about the psychological effects of method acting. I am going to obviously touch on neuroscience.

1:08.7

And I did, before we get into that, I don't know if you guys noticed,

1:12.8

but this past Sunday was National Book Lovers Day. And I do have a bit of a hall in front of me.

1:17.8

I'm also going to talk about the book that we will be discussing or touching on during this

1:22.9

series, because when it comes to embodying a character, right, you need to have a high degree of kind of

1:29.5

agreeability. You know, you need to suggest to yourself like different character changes.

1:36.1

And so we will have to be entering flow state, which is an altered state of consciousness.

1:40.7

And I do have the book Flow and the author's name I cannot pronounce.

1:44.7

Let me try to spell it out for you.

1:46.5

So this is the book that I will be touching on, Flow, to get into an altered state of consciousness.
