All of Florida is under a state of emergency today, as the panhandle braces for what could be the

strongest storm to slam into them in years. Tropical storm Ian is headed toward Florida.

The storm is growing stronger by the hour. It's expected to reach hurricane strength today,

then grow into a major hurricane as soon as tomorrow. Whether experts say Ian could be a

category three hurricane or stronger when it could make landfall on Florida later this week.

First, it's tracking near the Cayman Islands and Western Cuba. Meteorologists believe Ian will

reach a category four strength over the eastern Gulf of Mexico by Wednesday. It should lose at least

some of its power before heading Florida. And while there's still some uncertainty about what

exactly Ian will do, Florida officials are urging residents to be prepared for the worst.

Many across the state are buying up food and supplies while they can. Thousands of Florida

national guard members are now active and standing by to help once the storm arrives.

Caribbean storms have caused a lot of damage and trouble over the past week.
