Summary

Talking about my experience with fixed games in Colombia through Envigado FC and why the situation with Ridley and the NFL is no where near comparable to being "fixed" as Fox Sports analysts suggest.

Also my comments on why this is a big victory for the regulated betting industry (it's working) but why active athlete deals create a double standard.

Good morning, everybody. Today is Tuesday, March 8th. The NFL offseason continues on. We are just over one week away from the start of the new league year. And we are now finally starting to see a couple of draft props beyond just who will go first overall start to leak out. A lot of those have already been on the move, but once we have some wider

0:23.6

availability within the markets, we will start getting into NFL draft props and determining

0:29.1

how lucrative those will be this year, as they have been for many people over the past

0:35.0

number of seasons. Before we get into any of that in the coming days,

0:39.9

we have a bit of a story to react to. And in the offseason low, that is the time between the

0:45.3

Super Bowl and the start of the new league year, it's kind of nice to have a little bit of a softball

0:51.2

in terms of things to talk about. And the reaction from Twitter and

0:56.4

elsewhere really makes this a pretty easy story to talk about and provide a bit of a gambling

1:02.6

perspective on it. So the story, obviously, for those of you who have yet to hear, is Calvin

1:09.1

Ridley. And now he was caught last month in an investigation that

1:14.4

started in the early parts of February for betting on games during his hiatus from the league.

1:19.9

He was dealing with mental health issues while he was away. It was determined that he was

1:24.8

placing on his phone parlays at a regulated sports book on NFL games.

1:32.6

And so before we get into like the sort of moral implications of this,

1:37.3

the tweet that I think stood out the most was Emmanuel Acho who went through and clipped videos from Ridley's past games in prior seasons

1:49.9

to imply that he was fixing games.

1:53.7

And you have a number of other accounts that don't understand betting,

1:59.4

and they see news like this, and they jump on it right away to

2:03.2

sort of point to figure and say this is immoral and players within the league should never

2:08.4

be associated with gambling and we knew this was going to happen as soon as the league partnered

2:12.1

with the sports books it's making it so easy for players to bet everything's fixed everything's

2:16.8

manipulated like that's such an easy easy for players to bet. Everything's fixed. Everything's manipulated.
