What's going on everyone? Welcome back to the podcast. Today's a very specific episode because I've gotten this question quite a few times and actually this is something that I've also had happened to me recently so I figured you know why not bring it out to the podcast for all you guys so we're talking about Christmas cactuses this is a

very common problem and the problem is this you have your buds falling off of your

Christmas cactus. That's not very festive is it? We don't want that to happen.

These are plants that are coming straight from greenhouses.

They are experiencing strictly controlled lighting,

moisture and temperature conditions,

so sometimes simply moving them from the nursery to your house

can cause bud drop just because of the shock of

leaving such a perfect condition for what's sure to be at least a slightly

less perfect condition in your home. So let's go ahead and see how they're cared for in

greenhouses so we can mimic that care as closely as possible. In a

greenhouse it's going to be watered almost perfectly evenly. The soil should not get soggy though.

It won't be fertilized as soon as late summer comes along because the growing season is stopping.

And then temperatures are going to be anywhere between 60 and 80

degrees Fahrenheit.

If you're in a Celsius area, it's going to be 15 to 26 degrees Celsius.

Anything above 90 is going to definitely cause bud drop on your Christmas cactus.

And then we need to think about where it actually grows in the wild.

So typically it's residing in deeply vegetated tropical forests of Brazil.

So the dense tree canopies above, we all know Christmas cacti aren't that huge,

the other vegetation above them make this nice warm shady womb
