Summary

How do you build a business while raising a family without feeling like you're failing at one or the other?

For many working moms and boutique owners, the pressure to balance motherhood and entrepreneurship can feel overwhelming. The truth is, the idea of perfect "balance" doesn't really exist. Instead, it's about understanding the season you're in and making intentional choices about where your energy goes.

In this Five Minute Friday episode, Ashley shares her personal journey  —and the lessons she's learned while building a business and raising three kids along the way.

You'll learn:

  • Why the idea of "balance" in motherhood and business is often unrealistic

  • The powerful mindset shift that helps eliminate working-mom guilt

  • How to stop comparing your life to other moms or entrepreneurs online

  • Why integrating your kids into your entrepreneurial journey matters

  • How redefining "presence" can transform both your business and family life

Hi guys, welcome back to Five Minute Friday. My mic just crashed. It's back and working.

I wanted to come to you today with a personal episode about motherhood and business.

0:09.0

It's a question I actually get asked about a lot because when I started the boutique hub,

0:13.0

it was literally the week that we brought Jade home from the hospital, our youngest,

0:18.0

that we launched the website, the boutique hub.com.

0:20.0

And so our kids have just

0:22.5

been a part of this whole journey the good the bad the ugly the heavy the late and they've

0:27.9

seen just our business evolve and our family evolved through all the seasons at the boutique

0:32.9

hub and now our kids are a little bit older jades, should probably be 12 by the time you guys hear this

0:38.7

episode. Easton is 14, our son, middle child, and Hadley's 16. And so now moving from having small

0:45.9

children into the busy, crazy middle school, high school sports era, it's kind of a whole

0:51.6

another season for us to learn through while having a business and having kids. And so I just wanted to kind of share some things that have been on my heart. And I know those of you who have kiddos, this is on your heart too because it's not easy. And we hear this word balance. And I just, I think balance is just bullshit. Sorry if you've got kids in the car, guys. But it's just not fair. I think there's so much comparison out there and I used to think that I had to pick, right? Do I want to be a great mom? Do I want to be a great business owner? I saw friends that I was envious of that were doing really great in one or the other areas. And I thought, you know, if I leaned really hard into business, maybe that meant I was failing at motherhood or if I leaned really hard into motherhood, I was going to be failing at business.

And nobody really talks about, especially as your kids grow and they're so busy, just

1:36.3

the invisible guilt that working moms and business owner moms carry.

1:41.5

And what I've come to realize over the years, it's this analogy. I feel like growth

1:45.3

seasons in business and growth seasons at home are definitely different. And I've stopped trying to

1:52.0

chase like perfection in one or the other, but I've started to look at it like a juggling act

1:55.8

and asking myself, what season am I in right now? And what is leadership and what is business

2:00.3

and what does motherhood look like in this season?

2:02.5

It's kind of like the juggling analogy of we're all constantly juggling different balls, right?

2:07.2

Some are rubber, some are glass, and the seasons and seasonality of life and business

2:11.6

is knowing what season you're in and what balls can drop at what time and what others you never would let drop.
