Summary
Annie Trumbull Slosson was a prolific author of novels and short stories mostly dealing with New England life and nature. In this story the central character, Jimmy, was a 70 something man who roamed the waterways of the New Hampshire wilds and was kind to everyone and every animal he met. When he came across a traveling preacher who shared his love for fishing- Jimmy discovered religion.

| 0:40.2 | storyteller she wrote a lot of short stories written in the style of what they call |
| 0:44.8 | American literary regionalism, emphasizing the local color in her case of New England. She was also |
| 0:52.3 | an entomologist and she is noted for identifying previously unknown species. |
| 0:58.0 | Most of her stories were published in the Atlantic Monthly and Harper's Bazaar and some are collected into book form. |
| 1:04.8 | You might remember the author Henry Van Dyke whose story, the other wise man, we narrated |
| 1:10.0 | just a few weeks ago. |
| 1:11.9 | He said this of Slausen, the loveliest of all her simple |
| 1:15.2 | narratives is that which I've chosen to stand near the end of this book, a kind of |
| 1:20.0 | benediction on anglers. And today's story is called Fish and Jimmy. I hope you enjoy it. |
