Summary

Katherine of Aragon, the first wife of King Henry VIII, left a profound and lasting legacy that goes far beyond her role as the mother of England's first queen regnant. Though often portrayed as a prim and pious figure, the real Katherine was a complex and fascinating woman who defied the conventions of her time and stood up for what she believed in. Today, we revisit the episode where I was joined by Dr. Emma Cahill Marron. Emma has studied Katherine and Aragon and her family extensively and her knowledge of art history gives her a unique insight into Katherine's world. -- Commercial FREE for patrons! Love the Tudors? And one of the things that drives me crazy is that Catherine of Aragon is frequently, if not always, seen as one-dimensional, and that is as a pious queen.

1:40.1

So as someone who has done extensive research on her, how would you describe Catherine?

1:46.1

Oh, that's a very good question because you're right. I think it is fair to say that she was a very pious woman, but there was so much more to her than that.
