In episode forty-five of The Running Effect (with Dominic Schlueter), I speak with Fiona O'Keeffe.

Recently Fiona ran 1:07:42 in the half marathon which made her the fifth fastest American at that distance ever! This was also the fastest half marathon debut by an American women ever (on a record eligible course).

In this episode, we do a deep dive into this race and all the preparation that went into it. We get insight into her mindset and how she prepared herself mentally. We also get to hear all about her new group and her experience training with this new team!

And on today's episode of the running effect, we are speaking with Fiona O'Keefe.

0:21.4

For those who may know that name, she was a standout runner from California and ended up

0:26.7

running collegiately for Stanford very successfully during her four years there.

0:31.6

But recently, Fiona has signed with Puma Elite Running based out of Chapel Hill, I believe.

0:38.1

And we actually had Fiona back on in 2021, and I will leave a link to that episode in the show

0:44.2

notes. In that episode, we went through more of her backstory in the sport of running in her

0:49.4

career as a whole, whereas in this episode, we go through Fiona's most recent race, the Houston Half Marathon,

0:57.1

where she ran the fastest debut half marathon for an American woman on a record eligible course

1:03.5

ever. She ran, I believe, 6742, and in that same race, Sarah Hall broke the American record

1:10.6

for a woman running, I believe, 67, 15.

1:14.5

Hopefully I got both of those correct.

1:16.5

But we go, we do a real big deep dive into that race, her preparation for the race, her mindset

1:22.3

going into the race, her goals going into the race, and then how the race played out, how

1:27.3

she felt it went some of her

1:29.7

future goals will she maybe attack the american record in the future i don't know you'll have to

1:35.5

listen to her response but this was just a really fun episode doing a deep dive into a specific

1:41.1

race a little shorter than most of my episodes, but a very fun thing to do

1:45.9

just going in on one specific subject. So I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did. Special

1:51.8

thanks to Fiona for being generous with her time. She is always a very bright and inspiring

1:57.3

person to talk to, so I appreciate her so much. But without further ado, here's my

2:01.7

conversation with Fiona O'Keefe. Fiona, welcome back to the running effect. How are you doing this
