You have all this material, you have all these interviews,

but then you have to make a play,

you have to make a thing that has an arc and a story,

and how do you do that?

I go to the rehearsal hall and the director is there

and other people involved.

I play the play, it's always too long,

maybe it's three hours long, maybe it's four hours long

of all this material, they say what they have to say.

Hopefully they argue with each other, which I watch.

And then I go home and I write another play

and come back with another one the next day.

And that happens for four weeks until the producer comes in

and says it's too long, tomorrow night is opening night.

You have to cut something.
