The Supreme Court today cleared the way for this prosecutor in the city of New York

Cyrus fans to obtain Donald Trump's tax and other financial records from his account.

It was an expected result, but it raises the profoundly important issue should prosecutors

be targeting people like Donald Trump, unpopular in New York, targeting them and trying

to find the crimes, trying to discover crimes, perhaps trying to invent crimes.

It poses an extremely serious danger to the civil liberties of all Americans.

I'll tell you why on the der show.

This morning, the United States Supreme Court in a one sentence unsigned opinion cleared

the way for New York City district attorney Cyrus Vance to obtain tax records and other

commercial records belonging to the accounting firm and others that handled matters, perform

a president, Donald Trump.

Not a surprising decision.

It was an extraordinary writ trying to get the Supreme Court to stop something that had

been approved by the United States Federal District Court, the United States Court of Appeals

for the Second Circuit.

So it was very much a Hail Mary by Trump's lawyers to try to get the Supreme Court to intervene

and they did not.

Okay, that's today's story, but I want to talk about the bigger picture.

I want to talk about the dangers of what's going on in relation to efforts by particularly

New York City and New York State law enforcement officials to get Trump to find something criminal

about him.
