Hello and welcome to the sleepy book shelf where we put down our worries from the day and pick up a good book.

In our last episode we read the final pages of Anne of the island.

It was so lovely catching back up with Anne after all this time. I hope you enjoyed it as much as the other installments. But in case you fell asleep before we finished, this is a recap of what happened at the end of the book.

This is a spoiler alert. If you haven't listened to the whole book yet and you don't want to know how it ends,

just stop this episode now.

But for the rest of you, I'll continue. Anne was back at Green Gables, feeling a little removed from life there since finishing college.

Jane Andrews was back from the West Coast and engaged to be married to a millionaire over

the summer.

Diana was expecting a baby and things felt different.

After spending three weeks in July at Echo Lodge, Paul walked down home and almost immediately,

Davy announced that Gilbert was very ill and apparently going to die.

The news hit hand terribly hard. Mrs Rachel explained that he had contracted typhus and the prognosis

indeed wasn't good. Anne stayed up all night in a vigil for Gilbert, knowing at that moment that she loved

him. She'd always loved him. She'd always loved him and now he may never know it.

At first light she went outside to clear her head and saw Gilbert's aunt's hired boy coming

down the street.

She ran to ask him about Gilbert, and he told her he was doing much better.

The next few weeks after his recovery, Gilbert came to Green Gables often.

They took a walk to Hester Gray's garden one evening,

and it was there that Gilbert confessed

that he had never stopped dreaming of a future with Anne.

Phil had written to him while he was ill and told him there was nothing between Anne and Roy and encouraged Gilbert to try again.
