Go with me, please, this evening to Ephesians.

We began a series a few weeks ago called Filled with the Spirit.

And I believe we should continue in this further, maybe for a while.

Ephesians 5 and 18.

Ephesians 518 says,

be not drunk with wine,

wherein is excess.

Now actually the word excess,

in many other translations use the word for debauchery or losing control or reckless action. It's not a matter of drinking too much wine. It's why you got drunk. It's losing control in getting drunk.

And obviously a lot of people have done a lot of things when they were drunk that they wish

they hadn't had done.

And that means, you know, if you weren't in complete control of everything you were saying and doing, who was?

He said, don't be drunk with wine.

We're in his excess.

But what?

Instead of getting drunk on alcohol.

Or you could include getting high on drugs, instead of that,

be filled with the spirit.

We need to not just tell folks don't get drunk and get high,

need to give them something to replace it with.

For real, because this life is tough to take sober.

You know I'm telling the truth.
