This last summer I took my kids on family vacation to the ocean.

We went to the beach and they had so much fun and as a dad it's really fun to watch the

different ages and what they like to do at the beach like my little kids, the little girls

they want to stay close to the shore, they like making little sand castles and dip their

foot in the water, dive into the little waves that are right there on the shore of the

beach, but my older kids, they want to go on adventure, they want to go out, they want

to go out to the big waves, out to the deeper part of the beach and a deeper part of the

ocean.

And I think the life of prayer is very similar.

You know, we could do simple prayers, prayers that we've been talking about in this little

series here that get us to put our foot into the ocean and we can do that and God will

bless us and it will enrich our spiritual lives in many ways.

But some of us may be having a longing and a heart to go deeper with God in prayer.

What does that look like?

Today I want to talk about a method of prayer that is deep in the Catholic tradition.

It's been used for centuries.

It's what the church calls meditatio or meditation or sometimes it's called mental prayer.

And I want to be clear, it's not really esoteric and complex, ordinary Christians have used

meditation for centuries and you can use it too.

But a lot of Catholics aren't aware of this kind of prayer and I want to give a spotlight

to it so that we can go deeper with the Lord in meditation.
