Hey it's Antries and welcome to the savvy painter podcast. Before we get

started I just want to thank the Laguna College of Art and Design for inviting me down to

speak to their MFA candidates. I absolutely loved peeking into their studios,

seeing their work, and hearing about their thesis.

I really enjoyed the conversations I had with the candidates down there.

So a big thank you goes out to Avery Endow and Peter Zocowski for inviting me to speak and to the students and staff for making me feel so very welcomed.

Today I am talking with the artist Zoe Frank and it just so happens

that Zoe is an alumni of the Laguna College of Art and Design or L-CAD as you will hear us call it in this episode. That was absolutely a coincidence.

Yeah, serendipity at its best. My friend Stephanie Scott was painting with Zoe at the JSS program in Chavita, Italy this summer, and highly, highly recommended that I talk with Zoe. So thank you so much Steph for the

recommendation. Zoe is a figurative painter from Colorado. She studied at the

Juliet Ara studios atelier in Colorado. She studied at the Juliet Aristotelier in Seattle and then went on to get

her MFA from the Laguna College of Art and Design. As Zoe will tell you she is in love with the figure.

She shares her process and her experiments freely in this episode.

I really enjoy talking with her about her current work in which she is playing with observation,

imagination, and photography. We also talk about the instability of this

career choice that we've made and how that can really affect our mood.

Zoe shares the tactics that she uses to deal with uncertainty,

tactics that focus on reconnecting with the joy of making things and creating.
