Welcome to our Rosary meditation.

Let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for.

Teresa of Avlaw in her book The Way of Perfection writes,

Everything I have advised you about in this book is directed toward the complete gift of ourselves to the Creator, the surrender of our wills to His and detachment from creatures.

For we are preparing ourselves that we may quickly reach the end of our journey

and drink the living water from the font.

The font she is speaking about is the heart of Jesus Christ,

from which he promises to pour forth a river of living water that will quench perfectly, infinitely, and an everlasting manner, every good desire we could ever have.

In John Chapter 7, Jesus stood up and proclaimed,

If anyone thirst, let him come to me and drink.

For out of my heart shall flow a river of living water.

Now this he said about the spirit which those who believed in him were to receive.

But to drink of this river of living water in this life requires, says St. Teresa, the complete gift of ourselves to God,

the surrender of our wills to His and detachment from all created things.

So what prevents you from giving yourself unconditionally to God? What do we cling to? Health, success, control the need for new experiences,

financial security, your kids, vanity, pleasures, comforts, come

now.

There is for everyone, and I mean everyone, those things that if they were allowed to be taken away or diminished,

we would be distraught, depressed, possibly lose our minds because we had placed our faith, hope, and love in them rather than in God.

That's precisely the problem.
