What is up everyone? Welcome back to the podcast. Today we are taking another question from Dan. So here is Dan's question. He says, hey Kevin, I'm a big fan of the podcast and I listen nearly every episode. Well, thanks I appreciate that. This year I bought a couple of container citrus trees and a fig tree and I'm not sure on what to

0:20.1

fertilize them with and how often to do it.

0:23.4

If I can I prefer to use organic, but I don't know if I should use time-released pellets,

0:27.8

liquid, or granular fertilizer.

0:30.7

Hopefully you can do an episode on the topic.

0:33.0

Well, I certainly can Dan, so here we go.

Let's go ahead and get into Citrus first.

So as we know, Citrus trees are generally speaking heavy nitrogen feeders. So your fertilizer is going to want to have

0:45.8

more n than the p and the k, so more nitrogen than phosphorus and potassium. A 211-P-K ratio is going to be pretty good and you can also use 3-1. There's one called

specifically for citrus or avocados and what I would recommend is if you can find that

1:14.8

just buy the best quality stuff that you can and apply it according to what it

1:19.5

says on the back of the package. Honestly a lot of the all-purpose style recommendations

1:25.5

and products are going to work pretty well,

1:27.6

as long as your nitrogen is the highest element

1:31.4

in that NPK ratio.

1:33.5

We've talked a lot about plant nutrients on the podcast,

1:36.2

so we all know that trace minerals,

1:38.2

iron zinc, manganese, etc.

1:39.9

are all pretty important.

1:41.4

So we do need to make sure that we include those in our
