And we are live welcome folks to episode 3475 of this survival podcast. It's a Thursday.

0:26.7

Even I've done kind of a lot of, let's say listener feedback and current events issues recently.

0:33.8

I thought I would take this jack only Thursday and dig into a more homesteading,

0:40.1

permaculture topic and something that I think is universally beneficial to anybody that pays

0:45.4

attention to it. Because as I say all the time when I talk about modern survivalism,

0:52.2

you know food is actually way more important than guns. It's not that guns aren't important but

0:57.1

I've only been in a few altercations in my life. I was only ever shot at once in my life and I

1:05.0

I didn't care for it but I've had to eat every day and our ability to eat is directly linked to

1:10.8

fertility. Even those of us who are far more carnivorous in our diet, even those of you like I'm

1:17.8

not full carnivore, I'm more of a kidover. But even those of you who are full on carnivore without

1:24.3

fertility, your animals have nothing to eat. You have no animals to eat. This is key. And for

1:31.1

health of human and animal kind, we also have to have nutrient density in the vegetable matter,

1:39.7

the plant matter that forms the base of everybody's food chain. So whether you're living highly on

1:47.6

a omnivores diet, you're living primarily on a plant-based diet or you're living primarily

1:52.8

on a meat-based diet, your food chain in the end starts out with plant material. But the plant's

1:59.6

food chain, technically your food chain as well, goes way down into what's called soil food web.

2:05.9

And there's a tremendous amount of interaction. There's a whole universe in a couple handfuls

2:12.8

of active, live, stable soil. It's a universe onto itself. Just as much as you can hold in two

2:22.4

hands, the volume of life in there, if you just talk about counting individual bodies of living

2:29.6

things, bacteria, fungi, nematodes, et cetera, is like a world onto itself. And your backyard,

2:37.7

indeed, is like a universe if it's living and thriving the way that it's supposed to.

2:42.4

If we don't have that, then we have a weak link in our food supply system.
